Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तेषां तु हतशेषा ये ते गत्वा लघुविक्रमाः ।
निहतं च महत्सैन्यं रावणायाचचक्षिरे ।
।
॥५-५८-११५॥
Teṣāṃ tu hataśeṣā ye te gatvā laghuvikramāḥ । Nihataṃ ca mahatsainyaṃ Rāvaṇāyācacakṣire । । ॥5-58-115॥
Translation
Those few of them who survived went quickly (fled) and reported to Ravana that the great army had been killed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उनमें से जो (थोड़े-बहुत) बच गए थे, वे शीघ्रता से भागकर गए और रावण को उस विशाल सेना के मारे जाने की सूचना दी।
English Commentary
Only a handful survived the onslaught, and their survival was due to fleeing rather than fighting. The survivors reported the total annihilation of the "great army" (mahat sainyam). This report serves as a reality check for Ravana, escalating the threat level from a nuisance to a disaster. It sets the stage for Ravana to send more powerful warriors (Jambumali, etc.) in subsequent sargas.

अस्सी हजार में से केवल कुछ ही बचे, और वे भी युद्धभूमि छोड़कर भाग गए। 'लघुविक्रमाः' का अर्थ यहाँ 'तेज गति से भागने वाले' या 'जिनका पराक्रम तुच्छ सिद्ध हुआ' हो सकता है। उनके द्वारा रावण को दी गई सूचना अब स्थिति की गंभीरता को बढ़ा देगी। अब रावण को समझ आएगा कि यह शत्रु साधारण नहीं है।
