Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रज्जुभिश्चाभिबध्नन्ति ततो मां तत्र राक्षसाः ।
रावणस्य समीपं च गृहीत्वा मामुपानयन् ।
।
॥५-५८-१२९॥
Rajjubhiścābhibadhnanti tato māṃ tatra rākṣasāḥ । Rāvaṇasya samīpaṃ ca gṛhītvā māmupānayan । । ॥5-58-129॥
Translation
Then, the demons there bound me with ropes, seized me, and dragged me into the presence of Ravana.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब वहाँ राक्षसों ने मुझे रस्सियों से बाँध दिया और मुझे पकड़कर रावण के पास ले गए।
English Commentary
This verse describes a critical error by the Rakshasas. Hanuman was already bound by the divine Brahmastra. However, out of fear and ignorance, the demons added physical ropes over the divine bond. According to scriptural laws, superimposing a physical bond nullifies the effect of the divine Astra. Hanuman realized he was technically free from the Brahmastra but chose to remain bound by the ropes voluntarily. He submitted to this humiliation solely to gain access to Ravana’s court and assess the enemy king's strength and strategy up close.

यह श्लोक एक महत्वपूर्ण घटना की ओर संकेत करता है। यद्यपि हनुमान जी ब्रह्मास्त्र से बंधे थे, राक्षसों ने अज्ञानतावश उन्हें ऊपर से रस्सियों से भी बाँध दिया। शास्त्रानुसार, यदि ब्रह्मास्त्र के बंधन पर अन्य भौतिक बंधन (रस्सी आदि) लगा दिया जाए, तो अस्त्र का प्रभाव समाप्त हो जाता है। हनुमान जी यह जानते थे कि वे अब ब्रह्मास्त्र से मुक्त हो चुके हैं, फिर भी वे रस्सियों में बंधे रहे और विरोध नहीं किया। उनका उद्देश्य केवल रावण के दरबार तक पहुँचना और उस अभिमानी राजा से प्रत्यक्ष संवाद करना था। यह उनकी कूटनीतिक दूरदर्शिता को दर्शाता है।
