Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दृष्ट्वा सम्भाषितश्चाहं रावणेन दुरात्मना ।
पृष्टश्च लङ्कागमनं राक्षसानां च तं वधम् ।

Dṛṣṭvā sambhāṣitaścāhaṃ rāvaṇena durātmanā । Pṛṣṭaśca laṅkāgamanaṃ rākṣasānāṃ ca taṃ vadham । । ॥5-58-130॥
Translation
I was seen and questioned by the evil-souled Ravana. He asked me about the reason for my arrival in Lanka and the killing of the demons.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस दुरात्मा रावण ने मुझे देखा और मुझसे बात की (प्रश्न किया)। उसने मेरे लंका आने का कारण और राक्षसों को मारने का कारण पूछा।
English Commentary
Hanuman refers to Ravana as "Duratmana" (evil-souled), setting the moral tone of the encounter. Despite being a prisoner, Hanuman holds his ground. The verse captures the commencement of the interrogation. Ravana, perplexed by the destruction caused by a single entity, demands to know the motive behind the infiltration and the massacre of his elite warriors. This moment transitions the narrative from physical combat to a battle of wits and diplomacy between the messenger of Rama and the King of Lanka.

हनुमान जी रावण को 'दुरात्मा' कहते हैं, जो उसके चरित्र के प्रति उनके दृष्टिकोण को स्पष्ट करता है। रावण के दरबार का वैभव और उसका अहंकार देखने योग्य था। यहाँ रावण ने स्वयं (या अपने मंत्री प्रहस्त के माध्यम से) हनुमान से पूछताछ की। राजा द्वारा सीधे प्रश्न पूछना मामले की गंभीरता को दर्शाता है। रावण यह नहीं समझ पा रहा था कि एक साधारण वानर अकेले पूरी लंका को कैसे अस्त-व्यस्त कर सकता है। यह संवाद रामायण के सबसे प्रतिष्ठित संवादों में से एक की भूमिका है।
