Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सुग्रीवश्च महातेजाः स त्वां कुशलमब्रवीत् ।
धर्मार्थकामसहितं हितं पथ्यमुवाच च ।
।
॥५-५८-१३४॥
Sugrīvaśca mahātejāḥ sa tvāṃ kuśalamabravīt । Dharmārthakāmasahitaṃ hitaṃ pathyamuvāca ca । । ॥5-58-134॥
Translation
The immensely glorious Sugriva has asked about your welfare and has spoken words that are beneficial, wholesome, and consistent with Dharma (virtue), Artha (wealth), and Kama (pleasure).

महातेजस्वी सुग्रीव ने आपकी कुशलता पूछी है और धर्म, अर्थ तथा काम से युक्त आपके हित की बात (संदेश के रूप में) कही है।
English Commentary
Hanuman flawlessly executes the role of an ambassador. He starts with the customary greeting, conveying inquiries of "Kushalam" (welfare) from King Sugriva. He then frames the upcoming message as being aligned with the three goals of life: Dharma (righteousness), Artha (prosperity), and Kama (desire/pleasure). By calling the message "Pathyam" (wholesome/beneficial like medicine), implies that while the advice might be hard to swallow, adhering to it is the only way to save Ravana and his kingdom from destruction.

एक दूत का धर्म निभाते हुए हनुमान जी पहले रावण की 'कुशल' (क्षेम) पूछते हैं, जो सुग्रीव का संदेश है। इसके बाद वे मुख्य मुद्दे पर आते हैं। सुग्रीव का संदेश 'धर्म, अर्थ, काम' तीनों पुरुषार्थों के अनुकूल है। 'पथ्यम्' का अर्थ है वह जो परिणाम में हितकारी हो (जैसे कड़वी दवा)। हनुमान जी संकेत दे रहे हैं कि सुग्रीव का संदेश सुनने में कठोर लग सकता है, लेकिन वह रावण के दीर्घकालिक हित में है। यह रावण को संदेश सुनने के लिए तैयार करने की भूमिका है।
