Iti vānararājastvāmāhetyabhihito mayā . Māmaikṣata tataḥ kruddhaścakṣuṣā pradahanniva .. 5.58.143 .. ॥5-58-143॥
Translation
When I told him, "The King of Vanaras has spoken to you thus," he (Ravana) became enraged and glared at me as if he would burn me to ashes with his gaze.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब मैंने कहा कि "वानरराज ने आपसे ऐसा कहा है", तब वह (रावण) अत्यंत क्रोधित हो गया और मुझे ऐसे देखने लगा मानो अपनी (क्रोधपूर्ण) दृष्टि से जला भस्म कर देगा।
English Commentary
This verse captures the volatility of Ravana. Upon hearing the authoritative message from Sugriva, Ravana's reaction is not one of consideration but of destructive rage. The imagery of him looking as if to "burn with his eyes" illustrates his intense malice and inability to accept counsel or threats. Hanuman recounts this to the Vanaras to describe the hostile atmosphere of Lanka's court. It highlights the danger Hanuman was in—standing alone before a demon king who wanted to incinerate him merely for speaking the truth.

यहाँ रावण की प्रतिक्रिया का वर्णन है। सत्य सुनना अहंकारी व्यक्ति के लिए सबसे कठिन होता है। जैसे ही हनुमान जी ने सुग्रीव (वानरराज) का संदेश सुनाया, रावण का क्रोध भड़क उठा। 'चक्षुषा प्रदहन्निव' (नेत्रों से जलाता हुआ सा) मुहावरा रावण की भयानक शक्ति और तामसिक स्वभाव को दर्शाता है। हनुमान जी यहाँ अपने साथियों को बता रहे हैं कि रावण कितना क्रूर और असहिष्णु है। एक दूत की बात सुनने के बजाय, वह उसे अपने क्रोध का पात्र बना रहा था, जो उसके विनाश का सूचक था।
