ततो विभीषणो नाम तस्य भ्राता महामतिः ।

Tato vibhīṣaṇo nāma tasya bhrātā mahāmatiḥ . Tena rākṣasarājo 'sau yācito mama kāraṇāt .. 5.58.145 .. ॥5-58-145॥
Translation
Then his highly intelligent brother named Vibhishana pleaded with that King of Demons on my behalf.

तब विभीषण नामक उनके महाबुद्धिमान भाई ने मेरे कारण (मेरे प्राण रक्षा हेतु) उस राक्षसराज (रावण) से याचना (प्रार्थना) की।
English Commentary
Hanuman introduces Vibhishana as "Mahamati" (of great intelligence/mind). In a court filled with sycophants, Vibhishana stood out by intervening to save Hanuman. This was not just an act of mercy but an act of political wisdom. Hanuman recounts this to show that even in the land of demons, there was one voice of reason. It highlights the contrast between the two brothers: Ravana, the slave of anger, and Vibhishana, the adherent of Dharma. This intervention is a pivotal moment in the Ramayana.

अंधकार में प्रकाश की किरण की तरह, लंका में विभीषण का चरित्र उभरता है। हनुमान जी उन्हें 'महामति' (अत्यंत बुद्धिमान) कहते हैं क्योंकि विभीषण जानते थे कि दूत को मारना न केवल अधर्म है, बल्कि राज्य के लिए अपशकुन भी है। जहाँ पूरी सभा रावण के डर से चुप थी, वहाँ विभीषण ने सत्य और धर्म का पक्ष लिया। हनुमान जी यहाँ कृतज्ञता और सम्मान के साथ विभीषण का उल्लेख कर रहे हैं, जो दर्शाता है कि शत्रु पक्ष में भी गुणवान व्यक्ति का सम्मान करना चाहिए।
