विनष्टा जानकी व्यक्तं न ह्यदग्धः प्रदृश्यते ।

Vinaṣṭā jānakī vyaktaṃ na hyadagdhaḥ pradṛśyate . Laṅkāyāṃ kaściduddeśaḥ sarvā bhasmīkṛtā purī .. 5.58.156 .. ॥5-58-156॥
Translation
(Suddenly I thought) Janaki has surely perished, for no place in Lanka is seen unburnt; the entire city has been reduced to ashes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(अचानक विचार आया) जानकी (सीता) अवश्य ही नष्ट हो गई होंगी, क्योंकि लंका में कोई भी स्थान बिना जले नहीं दिख रहा है; पूरी नगरी भस्म हो गई है।
English Commentary
In the heat of victory, a cold wave of realization hits Hanuman. He sees the total devastation and fears collateral damage—specifically, Sita. "Sarva bhasmikrita" (all turned to ash) implies total destruction. This moment reveals Hanuman’s deep sense of responsibility. He fears that in his zeal to punish Ravana, he has failed Rama by accidentally killing Sita. It is a moment of vulnerability, showing that even the greatest heroes battle with doubt and the consequences of their actions.
हिंदी टीका
विजय के क्षण में अचानक हनुमान जी को घोर विषाद ने घेर लिया। इसे 'पश्चाताप' कहते हैं। क्रोध और आवेश में लंका जलाते समय उन्हें ध्यान नहीं रहा कि सीता भी इसी लंका में हैं। अब चारों ओर राख देखकर उन्हें लगा कि उन्होंने अपने मुख्य उद्देश्य (सीता की खोज/रक्षा) को ही नष्ट कर दिया है। यह श्लोक एक वीर की मानवीय भावनाओं और कर्तव्य के प्रति उसकी संवेदनशीलता को दर्शाता है। वे अपनी ही शक्ति से भयभीत हो गए।
