तं ततः प्रीतिसंहृष्टः प्रीतिमन्तं महाकपिम् ।
जाम्बवान् कार्यवृत्तान्तमष्टच्छदनिलात्मजम् ।

Taṃ tataḥ prītisaṃhṛṣṭaḥ prītimantaṃ mahākapim । Jāmbavān kāryavṛttāntamapṛcchadanilātmajam । । ॥5-58-2॥
Translation
Then, Jambavan, thrilled with affection, questioned the joyful son of the Wind, the great monkey (Hanuman), about the details of his mission.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब प्रेम से अत्यंत हर्षित हुए जाम्बवान ने प्रसन्नचित्त वायुपुत्र महाकपि हनुमान से कार्य का पूरा वृत्तांत पूछा।
English Commentary
Jambavan, the eldest and wisest of the group, initiates the formal inquiry. It is fitting that he asks the questions, as he was the catalyst who awakened Hanuman to his own potential before the leap. The verse emphasizes the mutual affection (Priti) between the mentor (Jambavan) and the hero (Hanuman). Jambavan asks for the Karya-vrittanta—the factual report of the deed.

जाम्बवान इस दल के सबसे वृद्ध और अनुभवी सदस्य हैं। जब युवा वानर केवल हर्षित हो रहे थे, जाम्बवान ने पहल करके 'कार्यवृत्तान्त' (mission report) पूछने का दायित्व निभाया। यहाँ दोनों के बीच 'प्रीति' (स्नेह) का उल्लेख है। जाम्बवान ही थे जिन्होंने हनुमान को उनकी शक्तियों की याद दिलाई थी, इसलिए हनुमान की सफलता जाम्बवान के लिए व्यक्तिगत गौरव और खुशी का विषय भी है।
