कथं दृष्टा त्वया देवी कथं वा तत्र वर्तते ।
तस्यां वा स कथंवृत्तः क्रूरकर्मा दशाननः ।

Kathaṃ dṛṣṭā tvayā devī kathaṃ vā tatra vartate । Tasyāṃ vā sa kathaṃvṛttaḥ krūrakarmā daśānanaḥ । । ॥5-58-3॥
Translation
"How was the Devi seen by you? How is she faring there? And how is the doer of cruel deeds, the ten-headed Ravana, behaving towards her?"

(जाम्बवान पूछते हैं) आपने देवी सीता को कैसे देखा? वे वहाँ किस हाल में हैं? और वह क्रूर कर्म करने वाला रावण उनके प्रति कैसा व्यवहार करता है?
English Commentary
Jambavan’s interrogation represents excellent strategic thinking. He breaks the inquiry into three critical components: Operations: How did you manage to find/see her? Status: What is her current condition? Threat Level: How is the cruel Ravana treating her? These questions form the core intelligence required to plan the war. The term Krurakarma (cruel-deeded) highlights the urgency regarding Ravana.

जाम्बवान के प्रश्न बहुत सटीक और क्रमबद्ध हैं। पहला प्रश्न—'कैसे देखा?' (उपाय और कौशल)। दूसरा—'किस हाल में हैं?' (सीता जी की शारीरिक और मानसिक स्थिति)। तीसरा—'रावण का व्यवहार कैसा है?' (शत्रु की मंशा और समय की सीमा)। 'क्रूरकर्मा' विशेषण का प्रयोग करके जाम्बवान ने रावण के स्वभाव के प्रति अपनी आशंका पहले ही व्यक्त कर दी है। ये प्रश्न राम के लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण सूचनाएँ हैं।
