वैदेहीं राघवेण महात्मना ।
ततो ऽन्तरिक्षं विपुलं प्लुतो ऽहं गरुडो यथा ।
छाया मे निगृहीता च न च पश्यामि किंचन ।

Vaidehīṃ rāghaveṇa mahātmanā . Tato 'ntarikṣaṃ vipulaṃ pluto 'haṃ garuḍo yathā . Chāyā me nigṛhītā ca na ca paśyāmi kiṃcana .. 5.58.34 .. ॥5-58-34॥
Translation
(Thinking of uniting Vaidehi with the great-souled Raghava) I leapt into the vast sky like Garuda. [Suddenly] my shadow was restrained, yet I could not see anything.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(महात्मा राघव के साथ वैदेही के मिलन का विचार करते हुए) मैं गरुड़ की भांति विशाल आकाश में उड़ा। [तभी] मेरी छाया पकड़ ली गई, और मुझे कुछ भी दिखाई नहीं दिया।
English Commentary
Here, Hanuman recounts the beginning of his return flight. The reference to Vaidehi (Sita) and the great-souled Raghava (Rama) underscores his motivating thought: the divine reunion. Flying with the velocity of Garuda, the king of birds, Hanuman suddenly encounters a mysterious resistance. The phenomenon described is the "grasping of the shadow." While physically flying high in the atmosphere, his speed is checked by a force acting on his shadow cast upon the ocean. The phrase "I could not see anything" highlights the confusion; the enemy was not immediately visible in the sky. It represents a metaphysical or sorcerous attack, attacking the "shadow" or the unconscious connection to the earth while the hero attempts to soar, reminding us that obstacles often arise from unseen quarters.

इस श्लोक में हनुमान जी अपनी वापसी यात्रा का वर्णन करते हैं। यहाँ पाठ में सीता (वैदेही) और राम (राघव) का उल्लेख उनके मन के संकल्प को दर्शाता है—उनका एकमात्र लक्ष्य उनका पुनर्मिलन था। हनुमान जी अपनी गति की तुलना गरुड़ से करते हैं, जो पक्षियों के राजा और भगवान विष्णु के वाहन हैं। परन्तु अचानक, एक अदृश्य बाधा आती है। उनकी छाया को पकड़ लिया जाता है। यह एक विचित्र स्थिति थी क्योंकि आकाश में उड़ते हुए किसी की छाया को समुद्र में पकड़ लेना एक मायावी शक्ति का संकेत है। हनुमान जी कहते हैं कि उन्हें कोई शत्रु दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था, फिर भी उनकी गति अवरुद्ध हो गई थी। यह जीवन में आने वाली उन अदृश्य बाधाओं का प्रतीक है जो तब आती हैं जब हम लक्ष्य की ओर तेजी से बढ़ते हैं।
