अधोभागे न मे दृष्टिः शोचता पातिता मया ।
ततो ऽद्राक्षमहं भीमां राक्षसीं सलिलेशयाम् ।

Adhobhāge na me dṛṣṭiḥ śocatā pātitā mayā . Tato 'drākṣam-ahaṃ bhīmāṃ rākṣasīṃ salileśayām .. 5.58.37 .. ॥5-58-37॥
Translation
Then, grieving (concerned), I cast my gaze downward. There I saw a terrible demoness lying in the water.

तब मैंने चिंतामग्न होकर अपनी दृष्टि नीचे की ओर डाली। वहाँ मैंने जल में सोई हुई (या स्थित) एक भयानक राक्षसी को देखा।
English Commentary
After scanning the horizon, Hanuman directs his gaze downward (adhobhāge) and discovers the source of his trouble. The use of the word śocatā implies a deep concern or distress, likely due to the delay in his urgent mission rather than fear for his own safety. Upon looking down, he spots the "terrible demoness" (bhīmāṃ rākṣasīm) residing in the water. This is Simhika. This verse marks the moment of discovery. The enemy is identified not in the domain of the hero (the sky) but in the element below (the water). It metaphorically suggests that sometimes high-flying ambitions are dragged down by base, submerged forces. Recognizing the enemy is the pivotal turning point in this encounter.

जब ऊपर और चारों दिशाओं में कुछ नहीं दिखा, तो हनुमान जी ने नीचे (समुद्र की ओर) देखा। 'शोचता' शब्द यहाँ चिंता या गंभीरता को दर्शाता है, भय को नहीं—उन्हें अपने कार्य में विलंब की चिंता थी। नीचे देखने पर उन्हें समस्या का मूल कारण मिल गया—जल में स्थित सिंहिका राक्षसी। यह श्लोक समस्या की जड़ खोजने का प्रतीक है। अक्सर बाधाएँ वहाँ नहीं होतीं जहाँ हम देख रहे होते हैं, बल्कि गहराई में छिपी होती हैं। सिंहिका जल में रहकर आकाश में उड़ने वालों का शिकार करती थी। हनुमान जी द्वारा उसे पहचान लेना ही आधी जीत थी। यहाँ 'भीमा' शब्द उस राक्षसी के डरावने स्वरूप का वर्णन करता है, जो समुद्र की गहराइयों से आतंक फैला रही थी।
