दक्षिणं तीरमुदधेर्लङ्का यत्र च सा पुरी ।
अस्तं दिनकरे याते रक्षसां निलयं पुरम् ।
प्रविष्टो ऽहमविज्ञातो रक्षोभि र्भीमविक्रमैः ।

Dakṣiṇaṃ tīram-udadher-laṅkā yatra ca sā purī . Astaṃ dinakare yāte rakṣasāṃ nilayaṃ puram . Praviṣṭo 'ham-avijñāto rakṣobhir-bhīma-vikramaiḥ .. 5.58.46 .. ॥5-58-46॥
Translation
On the southern shore of the ocean where the city of Lanka is located, after the sun had set, I entered that abode of demons unseen by the terribly powerful Rakshasas.

समुद्र के उस दक्षिणी तट पर जहाँ वह लंका नगरी स्थित थी, सूर्य के अस्त हो जाने पर, मैं भयानक पराक्रमी राक्षसों की दृष्टि से बचकर उस राक्षस-राज की नगरी में प्रविष्ट हुआ।
English Commentary
Hanuman narrates his tactical entry into enemy territory. He specifically mentions waiting for the sun to set (astaṃ dinakare yāte), utilizing the cover of darkness. The city is described as the abode of demons (rakṣasāṃ nilayaṃ), guarded by those of terrible valor. Despite his own immense power, Hanuman chooses to enter avijñātaḥ (unnoticed/unknown). This emphasizes that the mission was primarily reconnaissance (searching for Sita), not immediate warfare. A wise warrior knows when to show strength and when to cloak it; here, stealth was the superior weapon against the vigilance of the Rakshasas.

हनुमान जी यहाँ अपनी युद्ध-नीति (Strategy) का परिचय दे रहे हैं। यद्यपि वे अत्यंत बलशाली हैं, फिर भी उन्होंने लंका में प्रवेश के लिए 'प्रदोष काल' (सूर्यास्त के बाद) का समय चुना। 'अविज्ञातः' (बिना किसी के जाने) शब्द बताता है कि जासूसी के कार्य में गोपनीयता कितनी आवश्यक है। लंका 'भीमविक्रमैः रक्षोभिः' (भयानक पराक्रमी राक्षसों) से भरी थी, इसलिए सीधा संघर्ष करने के बजाय उन्होंने सूक्ष्म और गुप्त रूप से प्रवेश करना उचित समझा। यह श्लोक साहस के साथ-साथ संयम और समय-चयन (Timing) की महत्ता को दर्शाता है।
