भूमिशय्या विवर्णाङ्गी पझिनीव हिमागमे ।
रावणाद्विनिवृत्तार्था मर्तव्यकृतनिश्चया ।
कथंचिन्मृगशावाक्षी तूर्णमासादिता मया ।

Bhūmi-śayyā vivarṇāṅgī padminīva himāgame । Rāvaṇād-vinivṛttārthā martavya-kṛta-niścayā । Kathañcin-mṛga-śāvākṣī tūrṇam-āsāditā mayā । । ॥5-58-60॥
Translation
She slept on the bare ground, her limbs pale like a lotus in the winter. Turning away completely from Ravana's desires, she had resolved to die. Somehow, I managed to find that doe-eyed lady quickly.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह ज़मीन पर सोती थीं, उनके अंग विवर्ण (फीके) पड़ गए थे, जैसे हेमंत ऋतु में कमलिनी मुरझा जाती है। उन्होंने रावण से अपना मन पूरी तरह हटा लिया था और मरने का निश्चय कर लिया था। उस मृगनयनी (सीता) को मैंने (सौभाग्य से) किसी तरह शीघ्र ही ढूँढ लिया।
English Commentary
This describes the critical timing of Hanuman's discovery. Sita is compared to a padmini (lotus) in himagama (winter/snowfall)—scorched by the cold, pale (vivarṇāṅgī), and devoid of luster, yet retaining her essential nature. The phrase martavya-kṛta-niścayā is chilling: she had "resolved to die." Having completely rejected Ravana (vinivṛttārthā), she saw death as the only escape from her suffering. Hanuman acknowledges the precariousness of the situation with kathañcit (somehow/with difficulty) and tūrṇam (quickly). He implies that he arrived just in time. Had he been delayed, Sita’s despair might have led her to end her life. This underscores the urgency of the mission and the providential nature of his arrival at that exact moment.

यह श्लोक सीता जी की शारीरिक और मानसिक स्थिति की पराकाष्ठा है। 'भूमिशय्या' उनके तप को दर्शाती है। 'पझिनीव हिमागमे' (बर्फ गिरने पर कमलिनी जैसी) उपमा सीता जी की मुरझाई हुई कांति को दर्शाती है—सुंदरता अभी भी है, किन्तु दुःख के पाले ने उसे झुलसा दिया है। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण वाक्यांश है 'मर्तव्यकृतनिश्चया'—उन्होंने मृत्यु का निश्चय कर लिया था। हनुमान जी यहाँ स्वीकार कर रहे हैं कि यदि उन्हें पहुँचने में थोड़ी भी और देर होती, तो अनर्थ हो सकता था। सीता जी ने रावण की किसी भी मांग को मानने के बजाय प्राण त्यागना स्वीकार किया था। 'कथंचिन्' (किसी तरह) शब्द बताता है कि हनुमान जी इसे दैवीय कृपा मानते हैं कि सीता जी के आत्मदाह के संकल्प को पूरा करने से ठीक पहले वह वहाँ पहुँच गए। यह मिलन एक अत्यंत नाजुक मोड़ पर हुआ।
