यदि चेत्त्वं तु दर्पान्मां नाभिनन्दसि गर्विते ।
द्वौ मासावन्तरं सीते पास्यामि रुधिरं तव ।

Yadi cet-tvaṃ tu darpān-māṃ nābhinandasi garvite । Dvau māsāv-antaraṃ sīte pāsyāmi rudhiraṃ tava । । ॥5-58-68॥
Translation
"O proud woman! If out of arrogance you do not accept me, then, O Sita, after a period of two months, I will drink your blood."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(जब सीता ने उसे दुत्कार दिया, तो उसने धमकी दी) "हे गर्विते! यदि तुम घमंड के कारण मेरा अभिनन्दन (स्वीकार) नहीं करोगी, तो हे सीते! दो महीने की अवधि बीतने पर मैं तुम्हारा रक्त पी जाऊंगा।"
English Commentary
The mask falls off. When his pleading fails, Ravana resorts to a horrific ultimatum. He interprets Sita’s loyalty to Rama as darpa (arrogance/pride). He sets a specific deadline: dvau māsau (two months). This implies that if she doesn't submit by then, he will kill and eat her (pāsyāmi rudhiraṃ tava - I will drink your blood). This verse is crucial for the plot as it creates a ticking clock for the rescue mission. Hanuman now knows exactly how much time Rama has left to save her. The shift from "accept me" to "I will drink your blood" illustrates the volatile and psychopathic nature of Ravana, confirming that Sita is in imminent mortal danger.

रावण का अनुनय-विनय क्षण भर में ही क्रूरता में बदल गया। सीता जी द्वारा अस्वीकृत होने पर उसका असली राक्षसी रूप सामने आ गया। वह सीता के सतीत्व को 'दर्प' (घमंड) कहता है। 'द्वौ मासावन्तरं' (दो महीने की अवधि) अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है—यह रामायण युद्ध के लिए एक 'टाइम बम' (समय सीमा) निर्धारित करता है। यह समय सीमा ही हनुमान जी को यह समझाने में मदद करती है कि श्री राम को कितनी शीघ्रता करनी होगी। 'पास्यामि रुधिरं तव' (मैं तुम्हारा खून पी जाऊंगा)—यह धमकी रावण की बर्बरता की पराकाष्ठा है। वह अब प्रेमी का नाटक नहीं कर रहा, बल्कि एक आदमखोर राक्षस की तरह बात कर रहा है। यह श्लोक स्थिति की गंभीरता को चरम पर ले जाता है।
