जानक्या परुषं वाक्यमेवमुक्तो दशाननः ।
जज्वाल सहसा कोपच्चितास्थ इव पावकः ।

Jānakyā paruṣaṃ vākyamevamukto daśānanaḥ । Jajvāla sahasā kopāccitāstha iva pāvakaḥ । । ॥5-58-73॥
Translation
Addressed thus with harsh words by Janaki, Dashanana (Ravana) suddenly flared up in anger, like a fire burning in a funeral pyre.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जानकी (सीता) के द्वारा ऐसे कठोर वचन कहे जाने पर, दशानन (रावण) क्रोध से सहसा वैसे ही जल उठा, जैसे चिता में स्थित अग्नि।
English Commentary
The metaphor used here—comparing Ravana’s rage to the fire of a funeral pyre (chitastha pavakah)—is deeply symbolic. Unlike a sacrificial fire or a cooking fire, a funeral pyre represents death and destruction. It suggests that Ravana’s anger is inauspicious and essentially suicidal. Sita’s truth has pierced his ego so deeply that he loses all composure. This marks the moment where Ravana's lust turns into a murderous rage, highlighting the instability of a mind ruled by adharma.

यहाँ रावण के क्रोध की तुलना 'चिता की अग्नि' से की गई है, जो बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है। साधारण अग्नि प्रकाश या ताप देती है, लेकिन चिता की अग्नि केवल विनाश और मृत्यु का प्रतीक है। यह उपमा संकेत देती है कि रावण का क्रोध अब उसके स्वयं के विनाश का कारण बनेगा। सीता के सत्य वचनों ने उसके अहंकार को जला दिया, जिससे वह विवेक शून्य हो गया। यह श्लोक रावण के पतन की मानसिक शुरुआत को दर्शाता है।
