Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स्त्रीणां मध्यात् समुत्पत्य तस्य भार्या दुरात्मनः ।
वरा मण्डोदरी नाम तया स प्रतिषेधितः ।
।
॥५-५८-७५॥
Strīṇāṃ madhyāt samutpatya tasya bhāryā durātmanaḥ । Varā maṇḍodarī nāma tayā sa pratiṣedhitaḥ । । ॥5-58-75॥
Translation
Then, from the midst of the women, that evil-souled one's wife, the excellent Mandodari, sprang up and forbade (stopped) him.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब स्त्रियों के बीच से उस दुरात्मा की पत्नी, उत्तम वर (श्रेष्ठ) मंदोदरी सहसा उठी और उसने रावण को (सीता को मारने से) रोक दिया।
English Commentary
Mandodari appears as the voice of reason amidst the chaos. While Ravana is blinded by rage, Mandodari retains her composure. Described as Vara (excellent/best), she acts decisively to stop her husband from committing the heinous sin of killing a captive woman. Her intervention is crucial; she serves as the last line of defense not just for Sita, but for Ravana’s own reputation and life, preventing him from crossing a point of no return.
हिंदी टीका
मंदोदरी का चरित्र यहाँ बहुत गरिमापूर्ण है। यद्यपि वह 'दुरात्मा' रावण की पत्नी है, फिर भी वह विवेकशील है। वह जानती है कि सीता को मारने से रावण का तत्काल विनाश हो सकता है या यह उसके यश पर कालिख पोत देगा। वह भीड़ से निकलकर रावण को शारीरिक रूप से रोकती है, जो उसके अधिकार और साहस को दर्शाता है। मंदोदरी यहाँ विनाश और रावण के बीच एक ढाल बनकर आती है।
