गच्छतश्च हि मे घोरं विघ्नरूपमिवाभवत् ।
काञ्चनं शिखरं दिव्यं पश्यामि सुमनोहरम् ।

Gacchataśca hi me ghoraṃ vighnarūpamivābhavat । Kāñcanaṃ śikharaṃ divyaṃ paśyāmi sumanoharam । । ॥5-58-8॥
Translation
"As I was going, a formidable obstruction seemed to appear; I saw a divine, golden, and very captivating mountain peak (Mainaka)."

जाते समय मेरे सामने एक भयानक विघ्न-सा उपस्थित हुआ। मैंने एक दिव्य और अत्यंत मनोहर स्वर्ण-शिखर (मैनाक पर्वत) को देखा।
English Commentary
Hanuman describes the first encounter of his flight: Mount Mainaka rising from the sea. Initially, he perceives it as a "formidable obstacle" (Ghoram vighnarupam), interpreting the sudden geological movement as a threat. However, he immediately contrasts this with its visual beauty (Sumanoharam - very captivating). This dichotomy captures the tension of the mission—where even beautiful things could be potential traps set by the demons.

यह यात्रा का पहला अवरोध था—मैनाक पर्वत। हनुमान जी इसे पहले 'घोरं विघ्नरूपम' (भयानक विघ्न जैसा) कहते हैं क्योंकि आकाश मार्ग में अचानक किसी विशाल वस्तु का उठना आक्रमण जैसा लगता है। किन्तु अगली ही पंक्ति में वे उसे 'सुमनोहरम्' (अत्यंत सुंदर) कहते हैं। यह विरोधाभास उस भ्रम को दर्शाता है जो हनुमान जी को क्षण भर के लिए हुआ था कि क्या यह शत्रु है या मित्र। यह उनकी कथा का पहला रोमांचक मोड़ है।
