कस्त्वं केन कथं चेह प्राप्तो वानरपुङ्गव ।
का च रामेण ते प्रीतिस्तन्मे शंसितुमर्हसि ।

Kastvaṃ kena kathaṃ ceha prāpto vānarapuṅgava । Kā ca rāmeṇa te prītistanme śaṃsitumarhasi । । ॥5-58-94॥
Translation
"O best of monkeys! Who are you? By whom and how have you arrived here? And what is your affection (connection) with Rama? You ought to tell me that."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे वानरश्रेष्ठ! तुम कौन हो? किसके द्वारा और कैसे यहाँ पहुँचे हो? और राम के साथ तुम्हारी क्या प्रीति (संबंध) है? यह सब मुझे बताने के योग्य हो।"
English Commentary
Sita displays necessary caution. Despite the emotional relief of hearing Rama's name, she does not blindly trust. She interrogates Hanuman on three counts: his identity (Kastvam), his method of arrival (Katham), and the basis of his relationship with Rama (Kā ca rāmeṇa te prītiḥ). This scrutiny is vital because she suspects it could be another trick by the shapeshifting Rakshasas. It highlights her sharp intellect amidst distress.

सीता जी का यह प्रश्न उनकी सतर्कता और बुद्धिमत्ता का प्रमाण है। भावुक होने के बावजूद, उन्होंने अपनी सुरक्षा और मर्यादा नहीं छोड़ी। वे जानती थीं कि राक्षस मायावी होते हैं, इसलिए उन्होंने हनुमान की पूरी पहचान (Identity), लंका आने का कारण (Method/Reason), और राम से संबंध (Connection) पूछा। 'वानरपुंगव' (वानरों में श्रेष्ठ) संबोधन देकर उन्होंने हनुमान का सम्मान भी किया, लेकिन पूरी पुष्टि करने के बाद ही वे आगे बात करेंगी।
