पतिव्रता च सुश्रोणी अवष्टब्धा च जानकी ।
।
॥५-५९-२७॥
Pativratā ca suśroṇī avaṣṭabdhā ca jānakī । । ॥5-59-27॥
Translation
That beautiful-limbed Janaki is devoted to her husband (Pativrata) and is held captive (surrounded by miseries/demonesses).
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह सुंदर अंगों वाली जानकी पतिव्रता हैं और (राक्षसियों तथा दुखों द्वारा) जकड़ी हुई हैं।
English Commentary
Though brief, this verse reinforces two critical aspects of Sita: her noble physical form (Sushroni) and her unwavering ethical stance (Pativrata). The word Avashtabdha indicates her captivity—she is physically pinned down by circumstances and guards. Hanuman assures his listeners that despite the imprisonment, her devotion to Rama remains intact. It paints a picture of grace under pressure, confirming that she has not yielded to her captor.
