Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रावणाद् विनिवृत्तार्था मर्तव्यकृतनिश्चया ।
कथंचिन्मृगशावाक्षी विश्वासमुपपादिता ।

Rāvaṇād vinivṛttārthā martavyakṛtaniścayā । Kathañcinmṛgashāvākṣī viśvāsamupapāditā । । ॥5-59-32॥
Translation
She had completely turned away from Ravana and had resolved to die. With great difficulty, I was able to inspire trust in that doe-eyed lady.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे रावण से पूर्णतः विमुख हो चुकी थीं और उन्होंने मरने का निश्चय कर लिया था। उस मृगशवक (हिरण के बच्चे) के समान नेत्रों वाली सीता को मैंने बड़ी कठिनाई से विश्वास दिलाया।
English Commentary
This verse captures the critical turning point. Sita had reached the depth of despair, having resolved to die (Martavyakrtanishchaya) to escape Ravana. The descriptor Mrigashavakshi (doe-eyed) evokes her innocence and startled fear. Hanuman admits that gaining her trust was difficult (Kathanchit). In her trauma, she suspected him to be another illusion of Ravana. It speaks to Hanuman's skill as a messenger that he could break through her wall of fear and despair to offer hope.

यह श्लोक उस निर्णायक क्षण का वर्णन करता है जब सीता जी निराशा के चरम पर थीं। 'मर्तव्यकृतनिश्चया'—उन्होंने आत्महत्या करने का मन बना लिया था क्योंकि उन्हें लगा राम नहीं आएंगे। 'मृगशावाक्षी' (हिरण जैसी आँखों वाली) विशेषण उनकी भयभीत और मासूम अवस्था को दर्शाता है। हनुमान जी कहते हैं कि विश्वास दिलाना कठिन था ('कथंचित्'), क्योंकि सीता जी को लगा कि हनुमान भी रावण का कोई मायावी रूप हैं। यह हनुमान जी की कूटनीति और संवेदनशीलता थी जिसने सीता जी को जीवनदान दिया।
