अथ मेघ प्रतीकाशम् कुम्भ कर्ण निवेशनम् ।
विभीषणस्य च तथा पुप्लुवे स महा कपिः ॥५-६-१८॥
Atha megha pratīkāśam kumbha karṇa niveśanam । Vibhīṣaṇasya ca tathā pupluve sa mahā kapiḥ ॥ ॥5-6-18॥
Translation
Then the great monkey leapt onto the mansion of Kumbhakarna, which resembled a cloud, and likewise onto the mansion of Vibhishana.

इसके बाद वह महाकपि कुम्भकर्ण के भवन पर गया, जो बादल के समान विशाल प्रतीत होता था। और उसी प्रकार वे विभीषण के भवन पर भी गए।
English Commentary
Hanuman visits the homes of Ravana's brothers. Kumbhakarna’s residence is described as megha pratīkāśam—resembling a massive cloud, fitting for a giant warrior known for his deep sleep and immense size. Immediately after, he visits Vibhishana’s home. At this stage in the narrative, Hanuman does not yet know Vibhishana is a devotee of Dharma and an ally-in-waiting. To him, Vibhishana is just another Rakshasa leader. This detail adds a layer of dramatic irony for the reader who knows Vibhishana’s future role. Hanuman’s movements remain swift and unbiased as he leaps (pupluve) from one distinct atmosphere to another.
हिंदी टीका
कुम्भकर्ण रावण का विशालकाय भाई था, अतः उसका भवन भी 'मेघ प्रतीकाशम्' (बादलों के समान विशाल और काला) बताया गया है। यह उपमा कुम्भकर्ण के शारीरिक आकार और उसके तामसी स्वभाव दोनों को इंगित करती है। इसके तुरंत बाद हनुमान जी 'विभीषण' के भवन पर जाते हैं। यह एक रोचक विरोधाभास है—एक ओर महा-निद्रा में लीन कुम्भकर्ण और दूसरी ओर धर्मपरायण विभीषण। हनुमान जी अभी विभीषण को नहीं जानते, उनके लिए वह भी केवल एक राक्षस है, इसलिए वे उसके घर की भी तलाशी लेते हैं। यह हनुमान जी की निष्पक्ष जांच को दर्शाता है; वे किसी पूर्वग्रह के बिना हर संभव स्थान को देख रहे हैं।
