जम्बु मालेः सुमालेः च जगाम हरि यूथपः ॥५-६-२१॥

Translation
The leader of the Vanara troops (Hanuman) went to the mansions of Jambumali and Sumali.

वानर-यूथपति (हनुमान जी) जम्बुमाली और सुमाली के भवनों की ओर गए।
English Commentary
In this verse, Hanuman targets the residences of Jambumali and Sumali. The title Hari Yūthapaḥ (Leader of the Vanara troops) reiterates his role not just as a messenger, but as a military general scouting enemy lines. Jambumali, the son of Prahasta, was a fierce warrior whom Hanuman would later confront and kill during his destruction of the Ashoka Vatika. Sumali was Ravana’s maternal grandfather, representing the elder generation of Rakshasas and the lineage that empowered Ravana. By inspecting their homes, Hanuman is effectively gauging the strength of both the young, aggressive commanders and the established patriarchal figures of Lanka. This systematic reconnaissance demonstrates his strategic foresight, preparing the ground for the impending war between Rama and Ravana.

इस संक्षिप्त श्लोक में हनुमान जी द्वारा जम्बुमाली और सुमाली के भवनों के निरीक्षण का उल्लेख है। 'हरियूथपः' विशेषण फिर से उनकी नेतृत्व क्षमता और वानर सेना में उनके उच्च पद को स्मरण कराता है। जम्बुमाली प्रहस्त का पुत्र था और एक अत्यंत उग्र राक्षस योद्धा था, जिसका वध बाद में हनुमान जी ने स्वयं इसी सुंदरकाण्ड में किया। सुमाली रावण का नाना (माता का पिता) था, जो राक्षसों के पुराने कुल का प्रतिनिधित्व करता था। हनुमान जी का इन विशिष्ट योद्धाओं के घरों को देखना यह सिद्ध करता है कि वे केवल सीता की खोज नहीं कर रहे थे, बल्कि शत्रु की सैन्य शक्ति और नेतृत्व पदानुक्रम (Hierarchy) का भी आकलन कर रहे थे। एक कुशल गुप्तचर के रूप में, वे भविष्य के युद्ध के लिए प्रमुख लक्ष्यों को चिह्नित कर रहे थे।
