शूल मुद्गल हस्ताः च शक्ति तोमर धारिणीः ।
ददर्श विविधान् गुल्मान् तस्य रक्षः पतेर् गृहे ।
राक्षसांश्च महाकायान्नानाप्रहरणोद्यतान् ॥५-६-३०॥
Śūla mudgara hastāḥ ca śakti tomara dhāriṇīḥ । Dadarśa vividhān gulmān tasya rakṣaḥ pater gṛhe । Rākṣasāṃśca mahākāyānnānāpraharaṇodyatān ॥ ॥5-6-30॥
Translation
He saw women (guards) holding Shulas (tridents), Mudgaras (clubs), Shaktis (spears), and Tomaras (javelins) in their hands. In that house of the Lord of Rakshasas, he also saw various military detachments and huge-bodied Rakshasas ready with various uplifted weapons.

उन्होंने उस राक्षसराज के घर में शूल, मुद्गर, शक्ति और तोमर धारण करने वाली स्त्रियों (तथा सैनिकों) को देखा। उन्होंने वहां विभिन्न सैन्य टुकड़ियों (गुल्मों) और विभिन्न प्रकार के हथियार उठाए हुए विशालकाय राक्षसों को भी देखा।
English Commentary
This verse details the weaponry and security personnel protecting Ravana. Interestingly, the female guards are heavily armed with Śūla (trident), Mudgara (heavy club), Śakti (missile/spear), and Tomara (iron club/javelin). This indicates a highly militarized female corps in Lanka. Additionally, Hanuman observes Gulmān—specific military platoons stationed within the palace complex. The guards are described as udyatān (uplifted/ready) with weapons, suggesting a state of constant high alert. The reference to huge-bodied Rakshasas (mahākāyān) with diverse weapons emphasizes that penetrating this zone required not just stealth but divine intervention. Hanuman is essentially walking through a loaded trap, observing the mechanisms of death surrounding the demon king.

यह श्लोक रावण के अंतःपुर की कड़ी सुरक्षा व्यवस्था का वर्णन करता है। यहाँ स्त्रियाँ भी सशस्त्र हैं; वे शूल, मुद्गर (गदा जैसा भारी हथियार), शक्ति और तोमर जैसे घातक अस्त्र धारण किए हुए हैं। यह रावण की असुरक्षा और सावधानी दोनों को दर्शाता है। हनुमान जी ने वहां 'गुल्मान्' (सैनिकों की टुकड़ियाँ) देखीं। एक 'गुल्म' सेना की एक विशिष्ट इकाई होती है। साथ ही, 'महाकायान् राक्षसान्' (विशाल शरीर वाले राक्षस) भी वहां तैनात थे जो 'नानाप्रहरणोद्यतान्' (विभिन्न हथियार उठाए हुए तत्पर) थे। रावण अपने ही घर में चौबीसों घंटे पहरे में रहता था। हनुमान जी इस अभेद्य सुरक्षा चक्र को भेद चुके हैं और अब भीतर से इसका अवलोकन कर रहे हैं।
