Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विनीतैर् अन्त पालैः च रक्षोभिः च सुरक्षितम् ।
मुख्याभिः च वर स्त्रीभिः परिपूर्णम् समन्ततः ॥५-६-९॥
Vinītair anta pālaiḥ ca rakṣobhiḥ ca surakṣitam । Mukhyābhiḥ ca vara strībhiḥ paripūrṇam samantataḥ ॥ ॥5-6-9॥
Translation
That mansion was well-guarded by polite and disciplined boundary guards and Rakshasas. It was filled on all sides with prominent and excellent women.

वह भवन विनम्र और अनुशासित सीमा रक्षकों तथा राक्षसों द्वारा भली-भांति सुरक्षित था। वह सब ओर से प्रमुख और श्रेष्ठ सुंदरियों से परिपूर्ण था।
English Commentary
In this verse, Hanuman observes the meticulous security and the opulent atmosphere of Ravana's palace. The phrase vinītair antapālaiḥ (polite boundary guards) is significant; it suggests that Ravana's forces were not merely savage brutes but highly disciplined and loyal soldiers who conducted themselves with protocol. This reflects the administrative competence of Ravana as a ruler. The palace is described as being filled with vara strībhiḥ (excellent women), highlighting the immense luxury and sensual indulgence that characterized Ravana's court. The juxtaposition of strict military security with delicate beauty paints a picture of a kingdom that is at the height of its material power, yet unaware that a divine agent, Hanuman, has already breached its defenses to witness its grandeur and eventual fall.

हनुमान जी यहाँ रावण के भवन की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था और वहां के वातावरण का सूक्ष्म अवलोकन कर रहे हैं। 'विनीतैः अन्तपालैः' शब्द का प्रयोग यह दर्शाता है कि रावण के रक्षक केवल क्रूर ही नहीं, बल्कि अपने स्वामी के प्रति अत्यंत अनुशासित और विनम्र भी थे। एक राजा की शक्ति उसकी सेना के अनुशासन में निहित होती है, और यहाँ लंकाधिपति की प्रशासनिक कुशलता झलकती है। यह भवन केवल एक निवास स्थान नहीं, बल्कि शक्ति का केंद्र है जहाँ 'वर स्त्रीभिः' (श्रेष्ठ नारियाँ) उपस्थित हैं, जो रावण के ऐश्वर्य और भोग-विलास का प्रतीक हैं। वाल्मीकि जी ने यहाँ 'सुरक्षितम्' शब्द का प्रयोग करके यह स्पष्ट किया है कि बाहरी रूप से अभेद्य दिखने वाली यह नगरी अब हनुमान जी की दृष्टि में आ चुकी है, जो रामदूत के रूप में वहां प्रवेश कर चुके हैं।
