उन्मत्तभूताः प्लवगा मधुमत्ताश्च हृष्टवत् ।
क्षिपन्ति च तदा ऽन्योन्यं स्खलन्ति च तथा ऽपरे ।
।

unmattabhūtāḥ plavagā madhumattāśca hṛṣṭavat । kṣipanti ca tadā 'nyonyaṃ skhalanti ca tathā 'pare । । ॥5-62-12॥
Translation
The monkeys behaved like madmen; intoxicated by honey and delighted, they pushed one another, while others stumbled.

वे वानर (प्लवग) पागलों की भांति आचरण कर रहे थे। मधु के नशे में चूर और प्रसन्नता से भरकर वे एक-दूसरे को धकेल रहे थे, और कुछ लड़खड़ा रहे थे।
English Commentary
The chaotic behavior continues, with the monkeys described as unmattabhūtāḥ (becoming like madmen). The combination of extreme joy and intoxication leads to a loss of motor control and social decorum. They are pushing and shoving each other in jest, and physically stumbling (skhalanti). The verse emphasizes the loss of physical coordination and the rowdy, almost insane (unmatta) atmosphere that has taken over the usually disciplined army of Sugriva. It highlights the sheer intensity of their celebration.

यहाँ 'उन्मत्तभूताः' (उन्मत्त प्राणियों की तरह) शब्द का प्रयोग वानरों की मानसिक स्थिति को बताने के लिए किया गया है। उनकी हरकतें तर्कसंगत नहीं थीं। प्रसन्नता (हृष्टवत्) और नशा (मधुमत्ताः) मिलकर उन्हें असंतुलित कर रहे थे। एक-दूसरे को धकेलना (क्षिपन्ति) और चलते-चलते गिर पड़ना या लड़खड़ाना (स्खलन्ति) शराबी की विशिष्ट शारीरिक चेष्टाएँ हैं। वाल्मीकि जी ने यहाँ वानर स्वभाव और मदिरा (मधु) के प्रभाव का बहुत ही स्वाभाविक मनोवैज्ञानिक चित्रण किया है।
