Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
हनूमता दत्तवरैर्हतं मधुवनं बलात् ।
वयं च जानुभिः कृष्टा देवमार्गं च दर्शिताः ।
।
॥५-६२-१७॥
Hanūmatā dattavarairhataṃ madhuvanaṃ balāt । Vayaṃ ca jānubhiḥ kṛṣṭā devamārgaṃ ca darśitāḥ । । ॥5-62-17॥
Translation
"Emboldened by the grace given by Hanuman, they have forcefully destroyed the Madhuvana. We were dragged by our knees and thrown up towards the sky."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हनुमान द्वारा दिए गए प्रोत्साहन (वर) के कारण उन्होंने बलपूर्वक मधुवन को उजाड़ दिया है। हमें घुटनों के बल घसीटा गया और आकाश में उछाल दिया गया।"
English Commentary
The guards specifically pinpoint the source of the Vanaras' confidence: Hanuman. By saying the invaders were "granted boons" or emboldened by Hanuman, they suggest that ordinary monkeys would never dare vandalize the King's grove without the backing of such a mighty leader. This acknowledges Hanuman's pivotal role in the mission's success. The repetition of their physical humiliation (being dragged and tossed) serves to incite Dadhimukha’s anger against this breach of protocol and discipline.

यहाँ वनपाल स्पष्ट करते हैं कि इस उपद्रव के मुख्य सूत्रधार कौन हैं। वे कहते हैं "हनूमता दत्तवरैः" अर्थात जिन्हें हनुमान ने अभयदान या प्रोत्साहन दिया है। इससे यह पता चलता है कि यद्यपि युवराज अंगद वहां हैं, किंतु सीता की खोज की सफलता का श्रेय और वानरों का नैतिक बल हनुमान से प्राप्त हो रहा है। हनुमान की मौन सहमति ने ही वानरों को इतना साहसी बना दिया है कि वे सुग्रीव के संरक्षित वन को भी नहीं बख्श रहे। रक्षक अपनी शिकायत में पुनः अपने शारीरिक अपमान का उल्लेख करते हैं ताकि दधिमुख को क्रोध आए।
