इष्टं मधुवनं ह्येतत् सुग्रीवस्य महात्मनः ।
पितृपैतामहं दिव्यं देवैरपि दुरासदम् ।
।
॥५-६२-३३॥
Iṣṭaṃ madhuvanaṃ hyetat sugrīvasya mahātmanaḥ । Pitṛpaitāmahaṃ divyaṃ devairapi durāsadam । । ॥5-62-33॥
Translation
"For this Madhuvana is extremely dear to the high-souled Sugriva. It is an ancestral heritage, divine, and difficult even for the gods to approach."

"क्योंकि यह मधुवन महात्मा सुग्रीव को अत्यंत प्रिय है। यह उनके पिता और दादाओं (पैतृक) से प्राप्त, दिव्य और देवताओं के लिए भी दुर्लभ है।"
English Commentary
Dadhimukha justifies his expectation of harsh punishment by delineating the value of the Madhuvana. It is not public property but the King's personal favorite (iṣṭaṃ) and an ancestral inheritance (pitṛpaitāmahaṃ). Furthermore, it possesses divine qualities (divyaṃ) and is exclusive even to the gods. By destroying it, Angada hasn't just broken a rule; he has desecrated the royal lineage and a divine sanctuary. This context is crucial to understand why Dadhimukha feels justified in demanding such severe retribution.

दधिमुख अपने विश्वास का कारण बताता है कि सुग्रीव दंड क्यों देंगे। मधुवन कोई साधारण जंगल नहीं है। यह "पितृपैतामहं" (बाप-दादाओं की संपत्ति) है, अर्थात यह इक्ष्वाकु वंश की तरह वानर राजवंश की धरोहर है। यह "दिव्यं" है और देवताओं के लिए भी "दुरासदम्" (जहाँ पहुँचना कठिन हो) है। ऐसी पवित्र और संरक्षित धरोहर का विनाश राजा के व्यक्तिगत और कुल के सम्मान पर आघात है। दधिमुख का तर्क है कि इस अपमान को सुग्रीव कभी सहन नहीं कर पाएंगे।
