स दीनवदनो भूत्वा कृत्वा शिरसि चाञ्जलिम् ।
सुग्रीवस्य शुभौ मूर्ध्ना चरणौ प्रत्यपीडयत् ।

Sa dīnavadano bhūtvā kṛtvā śirasi cāñjalim । Sugrīvasya śubhau mūrdhnā caraṇau pratyapīḍayat । । ॥5-62-40॥
Translation
Making a pitiable face and clasping his hands in salutation over his head, he (Dadhimukha) touched Sugriva's auspicious feet with his head.

उन्होंने (दधिमुख ने) दीन-हीन मुख बनाकर और सिर पर हाथ जोड़कर, सुग्रीव के शुभ चरणों को अपने मस्तक से स्पर्श किया (प्रणाम किया)।
English Commentary
This verse depicts the desperate state of Dadhimukha. Although he is Sugriva's maternal uncle and thus worthy of respect, the humiliation he suffered at the hands of the search party has forced him to bow down like a common servant. With a 'pitiable face,' he touches the King's feet with his head, signaling a plea for protection and justice. It highlights the rigid protocol of royalty where even elders must submit to the King when seeking intervention, and emphasizes the severity of the situation in Madhuvana.

यहाँ दधिमुख की मानसिक और शारीरिक स्थिति का वर्णन है। यद्यपि दधिमुख सुग्रीव के मामा (गुरुजन) हैं, फिर भी राज-मर्यादा और अपनी विवशता के कारण वे एक साधारण सेवक की भांति सुग्रीव के चरणों में गिरते हैं। उनका 'दीन मुख' यह दर्शाता है कि मधुपान करते हुए वानरों (विशेषकर अंगद और हनुमान) ने उन्हें किस प्रकार अपमानित और परास्त किया है। वे न्याय की गुहार लगाने के लिए अपनी वरिष्ठता भूलकर राजा के सामने पूर्ण समर्पण कर रहे हैं।
