Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मधूनि द्रोणमात्राणि बाहुभिः परिगृह्य ते ।
पिबन्ति सहिताः सर्वे निघ्नन्ति स्म तथा ऽपरे ।

॥५-६२-९॥
madhūni droṇamātrāṇi bāhubhiḥ parigṛhya te । pibanti sahitāḥ sarve nighnanti sma tathā 'pare । । ॥5-62-9॥
Translation
Holding honeycombs huge as a Drona (a large wooden vessel measure) in their arms, they drank together in groups; while others smashed them.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे वानर द्रोण-मात्रा (लगभग 10-12 किलो या एक बड़ी बाल्टी के बराबर माप) के छत्तों को अपनी भुजाओं में पकड़कर समूह में मधु पीने लगे, और अन्य वानर उन्हें नष्ट करने (फेंकने) लगे।
English Commentary
The scale of consumption is highlighted here using the measure Drona (a large volume, often varying but significant, like a bucketful). The Vanaras are grabbing massive honeycombs with their arms, indicating their immense strength and greed for the nectar. The verse depicts a scene of revelry where they are drinking in groups (sahitāḥ), fostering bonding. However, it also shows wastefulness, as some are simply smashing (nighnanti) the honeycombs, a behavior typical of uncontrollable intoxication and high spirits where the act of breaking things becomes part of the fun.

यहाँ मधुपान की अतिशयता का वर्णन है। 'द्रोण' एक प्राचीन माप है जो काफी बड़ी मात्रा को दर्शाता है। वानर छोटे-मोटे छत्तों से नहीं, बल्कि विशाल छत्तों से मधु पी रहे थे। 'सहिताः' शब्द बताता है कि वे मिल-जुलकर, गोष्ठियों में बैठकर उत्सव मना रहे थे। कुछ वानर मधु पी रहे थे, तो कुछ नशे और मस्ती में छत्तों को तोड़-फोड़ रहे थे। यह दृश्य पूर्ण अराजकता और आनंद का मिश्रण है, जहाँ संसाधन का उपभोग और विनाश दोनों साथ-साथ चल रहे हैं।
