किमयं वानरो राजन् वनपः प्रत्युपस्थितः ।
कं चार्थमभिनिर्दिश्य दुःखितो वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।
।
॥५-६३-१२॥
Kimayaṃ vānaro rājan vanapaḥ pratyupasthitaḥ । Kaṃ cārthamabhinirdiśya duḥkhito vākyamabravīt । । ॥5-63-12॥
Translation
O King! Why has this forest-guard Vanara arrived here? And pointing to what purpose (matter) has he spoken these words in such sorrow?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राजन्! यह वन-रक्षक वानर यहाँ क्यों उपस्थित हुआ है? और किस प्रयोजन (उद्देश्य) को लेकर इसने दुखी होकर ये बातें कही हैं?
English Commentary
Lakshmana is unacquainted with the internal protocols of the Vanara kingdom regarding the Madhuvana. He sees a distressed guard and hears complaints of violence, but he misses the underlying implication that Sugriva has already caught. His inquiry ('Who is this?' 'Why is he sad?') sets the stage for Sugriva to explain the situation. Lakshmana addresses Sugriva as 'Rajan' (King), maintaining formal courtesy while seeking clarification on this sudden interruption.

लक्ष्मण इस वार्तालाप के संदर्भ से अनभिज्ञ हैं। वे नहीं जानते कि 'मधुवन' का नियम क्या है और दधिमुख कौन हैं। वे केवल यह देख रहे हैं कि एक वानर राजा के चरणों में गिरकर रो रहा है और किसी उत्पात की शिकायत कर रहा है। लक्ष्मण की जिज्ञासा स्वाभाविक है क्योंकि वे सुग्रीव के चेहरे पर चिंता के बजाय एक अलग भाव देख रहे हैं। यह श्लोक लक्ष्मण की सतर्कता और हर घटना के मूल कारण को जानने की उनकी इच्छा को दर्शाता है।
