Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नैवर्क्षरजसा राजन्न त्वया नापि वालिना ।
वनं निसृष्टपूर्वं हि भक्षितं तच्च वानरैः ।
।
॥५-६३-४॥
Naivarkṣarajasā rājanna tvayā nāpi Vālinā । Vanaṃ nisṛṣṭapūrvaṃ hi bhakṣitaṃ tacca vānaraiḥ । । ॥5-63-4॥
Translation
"O King! Neither by Riksharaja, nor by you, nor even by Vali, was this forest ever allowed to be used (in this way) before; but indeed, it is now being consumed by the Vanaras."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे राजन्! न तो (आपके पिता) ऋक्षरजा ने, न आपने और न ही वाली ने पहले कभी इस वन (मधुवन) को [किसी को] उपभोग के लिए दिया था, परन्तु वह वन अब वानरों द्वारा खाया (नष्ट किया) जा रहा है।"
English Commentary
Dadhimukha frames his complaint by establishing the sanctity and exclusivity of the Madhuvana. By invoking the names of the past kings—Riksharaja and Vali—along with Sugriva, he emphasizes that the grove has always been a protected royal reserve, strictly off-limits to the general army. This context makes the actions of the southern search party appear not just as rowdiness, but as a treasonous breach of ancient royal decree, thereby justifying Dadhimukha's inability to stop them physically.

दधिमुख अपनी शिकायत की शुरुआत मधुवन की ऐतिहासिक और राजसी महत्ता बताकर करते हैं। वे तीनों राजाओं—ऋक्षरजा (सुग्रीव के पिता), वाली (सुग्रीव के भाई), और स्वयं सुग्रीव—का नाम लेकर यह सिद्ध करते हैं कि मधुवन सदैव 'निषिद्ध क्षेत्र' रहा है। यह उल्लंघन कोई साधारण फल तोड़ने की घटना नहीं है, बल्कि राजसी आज्ञा और परंपरा का घोर अपमान है। इससे वे अंगद और हनुमान के कृत्य की गंभीरता को राजा के सामने रखते हैं।
