अङ्गदे समनुप्राप्ते सुग्रीवो वानराधिपः ।
उवाच शोकोपहतं रामं कमललोचनम् ।
।
॥५-६४-२४॥
Aṅgade samanuprāpte sugrīvo vānarādhipaḥ |
Uvāca śokopahataṃ rāmaṃ kamalalocanam ॥5-64-24॥
Translation
As Angada (and the monkeys) approached, Sugriva, the lord of monkeys, spoke to the lotus-eyed Rama, who was stricken with grief.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अंगद (और वानरों) के समीप आ जाने पर, वानरराज सुग्रीव ने शोक से पीड़ित कमल नयन श्रीराम से कहा।
English Commentary
The scene shifts from the sky to Sugriva and Rama in Kishkindha. Sugriva has spotted the approaching Vanaras from a distance. Rama is described as "shokopahata" (stricken with grief) as he is yet unaware of the news. Sugriva, understanding the behavior of his troops as a king should, takes the initiative to console Rama. The epithet "kamalalocanam" (lotus-eyed) for Rama highlights his enduring beauty and gentleness, which remains present even in his sorrow.

दृश्य अब आकाश मार्ग से हटकर किष्किन्धा में सुग्रीव और राम पर केंद्रित होता है। सुग्रीव ने दूर से ही वानरों को आते देख लिया है। राम अभी भी "शोकोपहत" (शोक से ग्रस्त) हैं क्योंकि उन्हें अभी तक सीता की सूचना नहीं मिली है। सुग्रीव, जो एक राजा होने के नाते अपने सैनिकों के व्यवहार को समझते हैं, राम को सांत्वना देने के लिए पहल करते हैं। राम के लिए "कमललोचनम्" विशेषण उनके सौंदर्य और सौम्यता को दर्शाता है, जो दुख में भी म्लान नहीं होता।
