पितृपैतामहं चैतत् पूर्वकैरभिरक्षितम् ।
न मे मधुवनं हन्यादहृष्टः प्लवगेश्वरः ।
।
॥५-६४-२८॥
Pitṛpaitāmahaṃ caitat pūrvakairabhirakṣitam |
Na me madhuvanaṃ hanyādahṛṣṭaḥ plavageśvaraḥ ॥5-64-28॥
Translation
"If the lord of monkeys (Angada) were not joyful, he would never have destroyed my Madhuvana, which belonged to my father and grandfather and was protected by my ancestors."

"यदि वानरराज (अंगद) प्रसन्न न होते, तो वे मेरे उस मधुवन को कभी न उजाड़ते जो मेरे पिता और पितामह का है तथा पूर्वजों द्वारा रक्षित है।"
English Commentary
The destruction of the Madhuvana is the strongest proof of success for Sugriva. The Madhuvana was not an ordinary garden; it was the ancestral heritage of the Vanara royal family, strictly protected. Destroying it was akin to treason. Sugriva argues that a sensible crown prince like Angada would only dare commit such an act if he possessed news so good that it would render this offense forgivable.

मधुवन का विध्वंस ही सुग्रीव के लिए सफलता का सबसे बड़ा प्रमाण है। मधुवन कोई साधारण बगीचा नहीं था; वह इक्ष्वाकु वंश की तरह ही वानर राजघराने की पैतृक धरोहर था। उसे नष्ट करना राजद्रोह के समान था। सुग्रीव का तर्क है कि अंगद जैसा समझदार युवराज इतना बड़ा दुस्साहस केवल तभी कर सकता है जब उसके पास कोई इतना बड़ा शुभ समाचार हो जो इस अपराध को क्षम्य बना दे।
