तत्र दृष्टा मया सीता रावणान्तःपुरे सती ।
संन्यस्य त्वयि जीवन्ती रामा राम मनोरथम् ।

tatra dṛṣṭā mayā sītā rāvaṇāntaḥpure satī |
saṃnyasya tvayi jīvantī rāmā rāma manorathām ॥5-65-10॥
Translation
O Rama, there I saw the virtuous Sita in Ravana's inner chambers, keeping her life intact by placing her heart's desire solely in you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राम! वहाँ रावण के अन्तःपुर में मैंने उस साध्वी सीता को देखा, जो अपने मनोरथों (जीवन की आस) को आप में ही रखकर जीवित हैं।
English Commentary
This verse conveys the core of Sita's survival mechanism. Hanuman reports that she is physically in the most dangerous place possible—Ravana's inner sanctum—yet morally she remains satī (virtuous/chaste). This immediately quells any doubts about her purity. The phrase saṃnyasya tvayi jīvantī is profoundly moving; it implies that she has surrendered her will to live entirely unto Rama. She is not living for the sake of life itself, but living in her desire for Rama (manoratham). Hanuman effectively tells Rama that he is the sole lifeline keeping her tethered to this world, emphasizing the urgency of the rescue.

यह श्लोक करुणा और प्रेम का सागर है। 'रावणान्तःपुरे' कहकर हनुमान बताते हैं कि वे शत्रु के गढ़ के भीतर कैद हैं, जो उनकी स्थिति की गंभीरता को दर्शाता है। परन्तु तुरंत ही 'सती' शब्द का प्रयोग कर वे राम को आश्वस्त करते हैं कि सीता का चरित्र और पवित्रता अक्षुण्ण है। सबसे मार्मिक अंश है 'संन्यस्य त्वयि जीवन्ती'—अर्थात् वे केवल इसलिए जीवित हैं क्योंकि उनकी सारी आशाएं राम में निहित हैं। यदि राम का विचार न होता, तो वे कब का प्राण त्याग चुकी होतीं। हनुमान जी यहाँ राम को यह संदेश दे रहे हैं कि सीता का जीवन अब केवल राम के प्रेम और उनके आगमन की आशा पर टिका है।
