रावणान्तःपुरे रुद्धा राक्षसीभिः सुरक्षिता ।
एकवेणीधरा दीना त्वयि चिन्तापरायणा ।

rāvaṇāntaḥpure ruddhā rākṣasībhiḥ surakṣitā |
ekaveṇīdharā dīnā tvayi cintāparāyaṇā ॥5-65-13॥
Translation
Confined in Ravana's inner city, well-guarded by demonesses, wearing her hair in a single braid, miserable, and fully absorbed in thoughts of you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे रावण के अन्तःपुर में कैद हैं, राक्षसियों द्वारा कड़ी निगरानी में हैं। वे 'एक वेणी' धारण किए हुए हैं, दीन (दुःखी) हैं और सदैव आपकी ही चिंता में लीन रहती हैं।
English Commentary
The imagery of ekaveṇīdharā (wearing a single braid) is culturally loaded. It signifies a woman in mourning or separated from her husband, observing a vow of austerity, neglecting personal grooming until reunion. It stands as a symbol of her fidelity and sorrow. Hanuman describes her as dīnā (miserable/wretched) to convey her external state, but immediately counters it with her internal state: tvayi cintāparāyaṇā (absorbed in thoughts of you). This juxtaposition shows that while her body is imprisoned and wretched, her mind is firmly anchored in Rama. It portrays her as a yogini in penance amidst a fortress of demons.

'एकवेणीधरा' शब्द का यहाँ विशेष सांस्कृतिक और भावनात्मक महत्व है। प्राचीन परंपरा में, पति से बिछड़ी हुई स्त्रियाँ अपने केशों को न संवारती थीं और न ही तेल लगाती थीं, वे केवल एक लट (वेणी) में बालों को बांध लेती थीं जो व्रत और शोक का प्रतीक था। यह सीता के कठोर तप और वियोग का सूचक है। 'सुरक्षिता' का अर्थ यहाँ 'सुरक्षा' नहीं, बल्कि 'कड़े पहरे' से है। 'त्वयि चिन्तापरायणा' (आपकी चिंता में लीन) पुनः पुष्टि करता है कि चारों ओर भय होने पर भी, उनका मन उस भय में नहीं, अपितु राम के ध्यान में लगा है। यह उनके एकनिष्ठ प्रेम की पराकाष्ठा है।
