Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एष चूडामणिः श्रीमान् मया सुपरिरक्षितः ।
मनःशिलायास्तिलको गण्डपार्श्वे निवेशितः ।
॥५-६५-२२॥
eṣa cūḍāmaṇiḥ śrīmān mayā suparirakṣitaḥ |
manaḥśilāyāstilako gaṇḍapārśve niveśitaḥ ॥5-65-22॥
Translation
"This glorious Cudamani (crest-jewel) has been well guarded by me. (It reminds of the time when) a tilaka mark of red arsenic was painted on my cheek."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"यह शोभायमान चूड़ामणि मैंने बहुत संभाल कर रखा है। (इसे देखते ही राम को याद आएगा कि) एक बार मेरे गाल के पास मनःशिला (गैरिक/लाल पत्थर) का तिलक लगाया गया था।"
English Commentary
This verse connects the physical object (the Cūḍāmaṇi) with a specific, intimate memory to validate its authenticity. Sita recalls a moment where a tilaka made of manaḥśilā (red arsenic/mineral) was playfully applied to her cheek (gaṇḍapārśve). This is a memory of a time when they were happy in the forest, improvising adornments from nature. By linking the jewel to this private moment of affection, Sita is sending not just a gem, but a capsule of their shared history and love. It serves to starkly contrast that tender past with her current brutal reality, aiming to pierce Rama's heart with longing.

यह श्लोक एक 'फ्लैशबैक' (पूर्व स्मृति) है। सीता जी चूड़ामणि भेजते हुए उस प्रसंग को याद करती हैं जब वनवास के दौरान, श्रृंगार सामग्री के अभाव में, राम ने प्रेमवश 'मनःशिला' (एक प्रकार का लाल खनिज) से सीता के गाल पर तिलक लगाया था। 'गण्डपार्श्वे' (गाल के किनारे) शब्द उस क्षण की अंतरंगता और चंचलता को दर्शाता है। चूड़ामणि उस सुखद अतीत का साक्षी है। आज वही चूड़ामणि वियोग के अंधकार में उस प्रेममयी स्मृति को जगाने के लिए भेजा जा रहा है। यह राम को याद दिलाने के लिए है कि उनका प्रेम किन छोटी-छोटी मधुर स्मृतियों से बना है।
