इति मामब्रवीत्सीता कृशाङ्गी धर्मचारिणी ।
रावणान्तःपुरे रुद्धा मृगीवोत्फुल्ललोचना ।
॥५-६५-२५॥
iti māmabravītsītā kṛśāṅgī dharmacāriṇī |
rāvaṇāntaḥpure ruddhā mṛgīvotphullalocanā ॥5-65-25॥
Translation
Thus spoke Sita to me—she of emaciated limbs, the practitioner of Dharma, confined in Ravana's inner chambers, with wide/tremulous eyes like a doe.
हिंदी अनुवाद
रावण के अन्तःपुर में कैद, कृश अंगों वाली (दुर्बल), धर्म का आचरण करने वाली और भय से चंचल नेत्रों वाली मृगी (हिरणी) के समान सीता ने मुझसे ऐसा कहा।
English Commentary
Hanuman concludes his narration of Sita's message with a poignant visual description. He contrasts her physical frailty (kṛśāṅgī) with her moral strength (dharmacāriṇī). The simile mṛgīva-utphulla-locanā (wide-eyed like a doe) is powerful. It suggests eyes wide with terror, constantly scanning for danger, or perhaps wide with the unshed tears of hope upon seeing Hanuman. It evokes the image of a gentle, innocent creature trapped in a predator's den (Rāvaṇāntaḥpure). This imagery is designed to haunt Rama and compel him to act as the protector of the innocent.

हनुमान जी पुनः सीता की शारीरिक और मानसिक स्थिति का चित्र खींचते हैं। 'कृशाङ्गी' (दुबले अंगों वाली) उनके शारीरिक कष्ट को बताता है, जबकि 'धर्मचारिणी' उनकी मानसिक दृढ़ता को। सबसे प्रभावशाली उपमा है 'मृगीवोत्फुल्ललोचना'—हिरणी के समान चंचल और भयभीत आँखों वाली। जैसे एक हिरणी व्याघ्रों के बीच घिरी होने पर अपनी बड़ी-बड़ी आँखों से चारों ओर देखती है, वैसी ही दशा सीता की है। यह छवि राम के हृदय में करुणा (कृशता देखकर) और क्रोध (उनकी असहायता देखकर) दोनों उत्पन्न करने के लिए है।
