समुद्रं लङ्घयित्वा ऽहं शतयोजनमायतम् ।
अगच्छं जानकीं सीतां मार्गमाणो दिदृक्षया ।
।

samudraṃ laṅghayitvā 'haṃ śatayojanamāyatam |
agacchaṃ jānakīṃ sītāṃ mārgamāṇo didṛkṣayā ॥5-65-8॥
Translation
Having leaped across the ocean which is one hundred yojanas wide, I went searching for Janaki (Sita) with a burning desire to see her.

सौ योजन विस्तृत समुद्र को लांघकर, मैं जानकी सीता को देखने की इच्छा से उन्हें खोजता हुआ गया था।
English Commentary
Hanuman begins his report with remarkable humility and focus. He mentions the colossal feat of crossing the hundred-yojana ocean merely as a logistical detail, not to boast of his strength. His emphasis lies on didṛkṣayā—the intense desire to see her. This clarifies that his motivation was not just duty, but a deep, devotional intent to find the Mother. By referring to her as Janaki, he subtly reminds Rama of her noble lineage and the tragedy that a princess of such high birth is lost. This verse establishes the credibility of his report: he went specifically to find her, overcame impossible odds, and succeeded in his objective.

हनुमान जी अपनी कथा का आरम्भ अपने पराक्रम के बखान से नहीं, अपितु अपने उद्देश्य की शुद्धता से करते हैं। 'शतयोजनमायतम्' (सौ योजन चौड़ा) समुद्र लांघना एक असंभव कार्य था, जिसे उन्होंने मात्र एक पंक्ति में समेट दिया। उनका जोर 'दिदृक्षया' (देखने की तीव्र इच्छा) पर है। यह शब्द बताता है कि उनकी यात्रा केवल एक आज्ञा का पालन नहीं थी, बल्कि उसमें व्यक्तिगत भक्ति और दर्शन की लालसा भी सम्मिलित थी। उन्होंने 'जानकी' शब्द का प्रयोग किया, जो राजा जनक के कुल की उच्च मर्यादा को स्मरण कराता है। यहाँ हनुमान जी स्पष्ट कर रहे हैं कि उनकी पूरी यात्रा का केंद्र बिंदु केवल और केवल सीता की खोज थी।
