कथा मम सुश्रोणी भीरुभीरुः सती सदा ।
भयावहानां घोराणां मध्ये तिष्ठति रक्षसाम् ।

kathaṃ sā mama suśroṇī bhīrubhīruḥ satī sadā |
bhayāvahānāṃ ghhorāṇāṃ madhye tiṣṭhati rakṣasām ॥5-66-12॥
Translation
How does she, my lady of beautiful hips, who is always extremely timid and virtuous, stay amidst those terrifying and ghastly Rakshasas?

मेरी वह सुश्रोणी (सुंदर कटि प्रदेश वाली) सीता, जो स्वभाव से ही अत्यंत डरपोक (भीरु-भीरु) और सती है, वह भयानक और क्रूर राक्षसों के बीच कैसे रह रही होगी?
English Commentary
Rama juxtaposes Sita’s delicate nature against her brutal environment. He describes her as suśroṇī (of beautiful hips/limbs) and bhīrubhīruḥ (extremely timid/shy), emphasizing her physical fragility and gentle temperament. He wonders with horror how such a person survives amidst bhayāvahānāṃ (terrifying) Rakshasas. This question stems from a husband's intimate knowledge of his wife's nature. It underscores the miracle of her survival—that her love and chastity (satī) have given her a steel-like spine to endure an environment that contradicts her very essence.

राम को सीता के कोमल स्वभाव की चिंता है। वे सीता के लिए 'भीरु-भीरु' (अत्यंत डरपोक/संकोची) शब्द का प्रयोग करते हैं। जो सीता महलों में ऊँची आवाज से भी डर जाती थीं, वे आज 'घोराणां रक्षसाम्' (घोर राक्षसों) के बीच अकेली हैं। 'सुश्रोणी' (सुंदर अंगों वाली) कहकर राम उनकी शारीरिक कोमलता को याद करते हैं। राम को आश्चर्य है कि कोमलता और भय के बावजूद सीता के प्राण कैसे बचे हुए हैं। यह विरोधाभास (कोमल सीता बनाम क्रूर राक्षस) राम की व्यग्रता को चरम पर पहुँचा देता है।
