यथैव धेनुः स्रवति स्नेहाद्वत्सस्य वत्सला ।
तथा ममापि हृदयं मणिरत्नस्य दर्शनात् ।
।
॥५-६६-३॥
yathaiva dhenuḥ sravati snehādvatsasya vatsalā |
tathā mamāpi hṛdayaṃ maṇiratnasya darśanāt ॥5-66-3॥
Translation
Just as a loving cow starts flowing (with milk) out of affection for her calf, so too does my heart melt upon seeing this best of gems.

जैसे अपने बछड़े के प्रति स्नेह के कारण वत्सला (ममतामयी) गाय के थनों से दूध बहने लगता है, वैसे ही इस मणिरत्न के दर्शन से मेरा हृदय भी पिघल (बह) रहा है।
English Commentary
This verse employs a tender simile (upama) rooted in nature. Rama compares his emotional reaction to a mother cow (dhenu) whose milk spontaneously flows upon seeing her calf (vatsa). This signifies a biological, uncontrollable response of love. By placing himself in the position of the mother, Rama expresses a protective, nurturing, and visceral love for Sita (represented by the jewel). It suggests that his heart is 'melting' or 'flowing' in the form of tears and emotion. This metaphor transcends romantic love, touching upon the universal, pure essence of attachment known as Vatsalya (parental affection), indicating the depth of his bond.

यहाँ वाल्मीकि जी ने 'वात्सल्य' की एक अद्भुत उपमा दी है। राम अपनी तुलना एक 'गाय' से और मणि (सीता की स्मृति) की तुलना 'बछड़े' से करते हैं। जैसे बछड़े को देखते ही गाय के शरीर में भौतिक परिवर्तन होता है (दूध उतर आता है), वैसे ही मणि को देखकर राम के हृदय से प्रेम और शोक का प्रवाह फूट पड़ा है। यह उपमा राम के प्रेम की कोमलता और पवित्रता को दर्शाती है। पुरुषोचित कठोरता यहाँ पूरी तरह समाप्त हो गई है। 'स्नेहात्' (स्नेह वश) शब्द बताता है कि यह प्रतिक्रिया अनियंत्रित और स्वाभाविक है, इसे रोका नहीं जा सकता।
