ततस्तस्मिन् महाबाहो कोपसंवर्तितेक्षणः ।
वायसे त्वं कृथाः क्रूरां मतिं मतिमतां वर ।

Tatastasmin mahābāho kopasaṃvartitekṣaṇaḥ । Vāyase tvaṃ kṛthāḥ krūrāṃ matiṃ matimatāṃ vara । । 5.67.11 । । ॥5-67-11॥
Translation
"O mighty-armed one! O best among the wise! Then, rolling your eyes in anger, you formed a cruel resolution against that crow."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे महाबाहु! हे बुद्धिमानों में श्रेष्ठ! तब आपने क्रोध से अपनी आँखें घुमाते हुए उस कौए के प्रति कठोर (वध करने का) निश्चय किया।"
English Commentary
This verse captures the transition of Rama from a peaceful sage-prince to a wrathful punisher. Though addressed as Matimatam Vara (Best among the wise), indicating his usual composure, his eyes rolled in fury (Kopasamvartitekshanah) upon seeing Sita's pain. He made a "cruel resolution" (Kruram matim), meaning he decided to kill the bird. It underscores that while Rama is the embodiment of patience, he does not hesitate to dispense severe justice when his beloved is harmed.

यहाँ राम के रौद्र रूप का वर्णन है। 'कोपसंवर्तितेक्षणः' का अर्थ है क्रोध से आँखों का लाल होना या घूमना। यद्यपि राम 'मतिमतां वर' (बुद्धिमानों में श्रेष्ठ) हैं और सदैव धैर्य रखते हैं, किन्तु सीता के अपराधी को देखकर उन्होंने 'क्रूरां मतिं' (क्रूर/कठोर बुद्धि) धारण की—अर्थात् उसे मारने का निर्णय लिया। यह श्लोक बताता है कि शरणागत के लिए राम कोमल हैं, किन्तु आततायी के लिए वे काल के समान कठोर हो जाते हैं।
