वधार्हमपि काकुत्स्थ कृपया पर्यपालयः ।

Vadhārhamapi Kākutstha kṛpayā paryapālayaḥ । । 5.67.16 । । ॥5-67-16॥
Translation
"...(continued) O Kakutstha! You protected him out of compassion, even though he deserved to be killed."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"...(पिछले श्लोक से जारी) हे काकुत्स्थ! वध के योग्य होने पर भी आपने कृपा करके उसकी रक्षा की।"
English Commentary
This short verse completes the thought of the previous one. Despite Jayanta being Vadharham (deserving of death) for his heinous act against Sita, Rama chose mercy. The use of the name Kakutstha (descendant of Kakutstha) invokes his noble lineage known for upholding Dharma. Rama protected him solely out of Kripa (compassion/grace). It teaches that true power lies in the ability to forgive, and surrender nullifies even the gravest verdict of death.

सीता जी राम के दयालु स्वभाव का स्मरण करती हैं। यद्यपि जयन्त का अपराध अक्षम्य था और वह 'वधार्हम्' (वध के योग्य) था, फिर भी राम ने उसे शरण में आया देखकर माफ कर दिया। 'कृपया पर्यपालयः' (कृपा से पालन/रक्षा की)—यह राम के 'शरणागत वत्सल' गुण को दर्शाता है। वीर वही है जो शत्रु को हराए, लेकिन महापुरुष वह है जो शरण में आए शत्रु को जीवनदान दे।
