यदि वा मन्यसे वीर वसैकाहमरिन्दम ।
कस्मिंश्चित्संवृते देशे विश्रान्तः श्वो गमिष्यसि ।

Yadi vā manyase vīra vasaikāhamarindama । Kasmiṃścitsaṃvṛte deśe viśrāntaḥ śvo gamiṣyasi । । ॥5-68-3॥
Translation
Or, if you think it proper, O Tamer of Enemies, stay here for just one day. Rest in some hidden place, and you may depart tomorrow.

हे शत्रुदमन वीर! यदि तुम उचित समझो, तो आज एक दिन के लिए यहीं किसी गुप्त स्थान में रहकर विश्राम कर लो। कल चले जाना।
English Commentary
This is one of the most touching verses in the Sundara Kanda. Sita’s request, vasaikāham (stay for one day), reveals her terrifying loneliness. After months of isolation, having a benevolent presence nearby is a comfort she cannot bear to lose immediately. She addresses him as arindama (destroyer of foes) but asks him to hide in a saṃvṛte deśe (secluded place), showing her motherly concern for his safety amidst enemies. While she frames it as an offer for him to viśrāntaḥ (rest), it is clearly her own need for emotional respite. She wants to delay the return of absolute solitude for just a few more hours.

यह रामायण के सबसे मार्मिक श्लोकों में से एक है। सीता जी का 'वसैकाहम्' (बस एक दिन रह जाओ) कहना उनकी असीम पीड़ा और अकेलेपन को उजागर करता है। वह जानती हैं कि हनुमान को जाना ही है, फिर भी मन नहीं मान रहा। वह उन्हें 'संवृते देशे' (छिपे हुए स्थान) में रहने की सलाह देती हैं, क्योंकि उन्हें हनुमान की सुरक्षा की चिंता है। यह अनुरोध एक 'अतिथि सत्कार' भी है—वह चाहती हैं कि थके हुए हनुमान थोड़ा विश्राम कर लें। लेकिन गहरे स्तर पर, यह एक डूबते हुए व्यक्ति का तिनके को पकड़ने जैसा प्रयास है। हनुमान की उपस्थिति मात्र से उन्हें जो सांत्वना मिल रही है, वह उसे एक दिन और भोगना चाहती हैं।
