मार्गमाणः तु वैदेहीम् सीताम् आयत लोचनाम् ।
सर्वतः परिचक्राम हनूमान् अरि सूदनः ॥ ॥५-९-४॥
Mārgamāṇaḥ tu vaidehīm sītām āyata locanām । Sarvataḥ paricakrāma hanūmān ari sūdanaḥ ॥ ॥5-9-4॥
Translation
Searching for Vaidehi (Sita) of large eyes, Hanuman, the destroyer of enemies, roamed all over (that building).

विशाल नेत्रों वाली वैदेही सीता को खोजते हुए, शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले हनुमान जी ने (उस भवन में) सब ओर भ्रमण किया।
English Commentary
Despite the distractions of the magnificent architecture described in previous verses, this verse refocuses on Hanuman's primary mission. He is described as mārgamāṇaḥ (searching), reminding the reader of his role as a messenger and scout. The epithet used for Sita is āyata locanām (large-eyed), a classic mark of beauty and innocence in Sanskrit literature, which contrasts sharply with the fierce environment of Lanka. Hanuman is styled as ari sūdanaḥ (slayer of foes), subtly asserting his martial prowess even while he engages in stealthy reconnaissance. The phrase sarvataḥ paricakrāma (roamed all over) indicates the thoroughness of his search. He navigates the labyrinthine luxury of Ravana's palace not as a tourist, but as a determined warrior seeking the captive princess Vaidehi.

इतने विशाल और भव्य भवन में पहुँचने के बाद भी हनुमान जी का ध्यान केवल अपने लक्ष्य पर केंद्रित है। 'आयत लोचनाम्' (विशाल नेत्रों वाली) विशेषण सीता जी के सौंदर्य और उनकी सौम्यता को याद दिलाता है, जो इस राक्षस-पुरी की क्रूरता के विपरीत है। हनुमान जी के लिए 'अरि सूदनः' (शत्रुओं का संहारक) विशेषण का प्रयोग भविष्य का संकेत है; यद्यपि अभी वे गुप्तचर के रूप में खोज (मार्गमाणः) कर रहे हैं, परंतु वे शत्रुओं का नाश करने में पूर्ण सक्षम हैं। 'सर्वतः परिचक्राम' बताता है कि उन्होंने भवन का कोना-कोना छान मारा। यह श्लोक हनुमान की कर्तव्यनिष्ठा को दर्शाता है—वे रावण के ऎश्वर्य से विस्मित होकर रुके नहीं, बल्कि निरंतर सीता की खोज में गतिशील रहे।
