Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अम्शु कान्ताः च कासाम्चिन् मुख मारुत कम्पिताः ।
उपरि उपरि वक्त्राणाम् व्याधूयन्ते पुनः पुनः ॥ ॥५-९-५४॥
amśu kāntāḥ ca kāsāmcin mukha māruta kampitāḥ |
upari upari vaktrāṇām vyādhūyante punaḥ punaḥ ॥5-9-54॥
Translation
The beautiful edges of the garments of some women, shaken by the breath from their mouths, fluttered again and again over their faces.

किन्हीं स्त्रियों के मुख की श्वास-वायु से कम्पित होकर उनके वस्त्रों के सुंदर आँचल (अंशु) उनके चेहरों के ऊपर बार-बार हिल रहे थे।
English Commentary
This verse captures a minute, kinetic detail of the sleeping scene. The phrase mukha māruta refers to the exhalation of breath. The women are in such deep slumber that their rhythmic breathing is powerful enough to disturb the edges of their fine garments (amśu), causing them to flutter repeatedly (punaḥ punaḥ) over their faces. This imagery adds a dynamic element to the otherwise static scene of sleep. It signifies the vitality of the women even in unconsciousness and creates a soft, rhythmic visual that mirrors the sound of breathing. The repetition emphasizes the continuous, undisturbed nature of their rest.

यहाँ एक अत्यंत स्वाभाविक और गतिशील दृश्य का चित्रण है। गहरी नींद में सोई हुई स्त्रियों की श्वास-प्रक्रिया (साँस लेना और छोड़ना) के कारण उनके वस्त्रों के किनारे उड़कर उनके मुख पर आ रहे हैं। 'मुख मारुत' (मुख की वायु) से वस्त्रों का 'पुनः पुनः' (बार-बार) हिलना, निद्रा की गहनता और श्वास की लयबद्धता को दर्शाता है। यह श्लोक वातावरण की शांति को भंग नहीं करता, बल्कि उसमें एक मंद गति (rhythm) जोड़ता है। यह दृश्य पाठक के मन में एक सजीव चित्र उपस्थित करता है कि कैसे वस्त्र भी उन सुंदरियों के मुख का स्पर्श करने को लालायित हैं, अथवा वे पंखे की तरह हवा कर रहे हैं।
