चतुर् विषाणैर् द्विरदैः त्रिविषाणैः तथैव च ।
परिक्षिप्तम् असम्बाधम् रक्ष्यमाणम् उदायुधैः ॥ ॥५-९-६॥
Catur viṣāṇair dviradaiḥ triviṣāṇaiḥ tathaiva ca । Parikṣiptam asambādham rakṣyamāṇam udāyudhaiḥ ॥ ॥5-9-6॥
Translation
It was surrounded by four-tusked and three-tusked elephants. It was not congested and was guarded by warriors with uplifted weapons.

वह भवन चार दाँतों वाले और तीन दाँतों वाले हाथियों से घिरा हुआ था। वह भीड़-भाड़ से मुक्त (असंबाध) था और उठाए हुए अस्त्रों वाले सैनिकों द्वारा सुरक्षित था।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the supernatural and formidable defenses of Ravana's palace. The mention of elephants with four tusks (catur viṣāṇaiḥ) and three tusks (triviṣāṇaiḥ) is significant. In Indian mythology, four-tusked elephants belong to the lineage of Airavata, the mount of Indra. Their presence in Ravana's palace signifies his victory over the gods and his command over divine beasts. The palace is described as asambādham (uncongested/spacious), indicating orderly grandeur rather than chaotic crowding, which is often associated with military camps. The guards are described as udāyudhaiḥ (with uplifted weapons), portraying a state of perpetual high alert. This imagery serves to establish the immense difficulty of the task ahead for Hanuman—he is infiltrating a fortress guarded by mythological beasts and vigilant warriors.

रावण के महल की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था का अद्भुत वर्णन यहाँ मिलता है। यहाँ 'चतुर् विषाणैर्' (चार दाँतों वाले) हाथियों का उल्लेख है। पुराणों में चार दाँतों वाले हाथी (जैसे इन्द्र का ऐरावत) देव-जाति के या अत्यंत प्राचीन माने जाते हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि रावण ने देवताओं को पराजित कर उनके दिव्य वाहनों और पशुओं पर भी अधिकार कर लिया था। 'त्रिविषाणैः' (तीन दाँतों वाले) हाथी भी एक दुर्लभ प्रजाति की ओर संकेत करते हैं। 'असंबाधम्' शब्द बताता है कि सुरक्षा कड़ी होने के बावजूद वहाँ अव्यवस्था नहीं थी; सब कुछ सुव्यवस्थित और खुला था। 'उदायुधैः' (उठाए हुए हथियार) तत्परता का सूचक है—रक्षक सदैव आक्रमण के लिए तैयार थे। यह रावण की सैन्य शक्ति और उसके भयमुक्त किंतु सतर्क शासन को प्रदर्शित करता है।
