Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
बाहून् उपनिधाय अन्याः पारिहार्य विभूषिताः ।
अम्शुकानि च रम्याणि प्रमदाः तत्र शिश्यिरे ॥५-९-६०॥
Bāhūn upanidhāya anyāḥ pārihārya vibhūṣitāḥ । Amśukāni ca ramyāṇi pramadāḥ tatra śiśyire ॥ ॥5-9-60॥
Translation
Using their own arms adorned with bracelets (pārihārya) as pillows, and clad in beautiful garments, those young women slept there.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कंकण (पारिहार्य) आदि आभूषणों से विभूषित अपनी भुजाओं को तकिया बनाकर और सुंदर वस्त्रों को धारण किए हुए वे युवतियाँ वहां सो रही थीं।
English Commentary
The imagery here focuses on the effortless beauty of the sleeping women. Specifically, the use of the word pārihārya (bracelets or armlets) suggests that despite the weight of their jewelry, they used their arms as pillows, indicating deep exhaustion mixed with luxury. The scene conveys a sense of total security and abandon; they slept wherever they fell, yet their "beautiful garments" (ramyāni amśukāni) remained part of their allure. From a scholarly perspective, this reinforces the opulence of Ravana’s court—even in sleep, the aesthetic of wealth and beauty is maintained without effort.

इस श्लोक में स्त्रियों की निद्रावस्था की सुंदरता का चित्रण है। 'पारिहार्य' का अर्थ विशेष प्रकार के कंकण या बाजूबंद है। विलासिता इतनी अधिक थी कि उन्हें तकियों की आवश्यकता नहीं पड़ी; उन्होंने अपनी सुकुमार और आभूषणों से लदी भुजाओं को ही सिर के नीचे रख लिया। 'अम्शुकानि च रम्याणि' का अर्थ है कि यद्यपि वे नींद में थीं, उनके सुंदर वस्त्र अभी भी उनकी शोभा बढ़ा रहे थे। यह दृश्य एक निश्चिंतता और सुरक्षा के भाव को दर्शाता है जो रावण के महल में विद्यमान था। हनुमान जी एक तटस्थ दृष्टा के रूप में इस दृश्य को देख रहे हैं, जहाँ सौंदर्य अपनी चरम अवस्था में है, भले ही वह अस्त-व्यस्त हो।
