रावणे सुख सम्विष्टे ताः स्त्रियो विविध प्रभाः ।
ज्वलन्तः कान्चना दीपाः प्रेक्षन्त अनिमिषा इव ॥५-९-६७॥
Rāvaṇe sukha samviṣṭe tāḥ striyo vividha prabhāḥ । Jvalantaḥ kāscanā dīpāḥ prekṣanta animiṣā iva ॥ ॥5-9-67॥
Translation
While Ravana slept comfortably, and those women of various radiances lay there, the burning golden lamps seemed to be gazing at them with unblinking eyes.

रावण के सुखपूर्वक सो जाने पर, उन विविध कान्ति वाली स्त्रियों को जलते हुए सुनहरे दीपक (कांचना दीपाः) अपलक नेत्रों (अनिमिषा) से देख रहे थे—ऐसा प्रतीत होता था।
English Commentary
Valmiki personifies the golden lamps (kāñcanā dīpāḥ) in the room. Since the flame of a lamp does not blink, they are compared to eyes gazing (prekṣanta) steadfastly (animiṣā) at the sleeping beauties. This adds an element of witnessing to the scene; while the subjects (Ravana and his wives) are unconscious in sleep, the inanimate objects are "awake" and watching. It creates an atmospheric stillness, enhancing the visual splendor of the gold lamps reflecting off the jewelry and skin of the sleeping women.

यहाँ एक सुंदर मानवीकरण (Personification) है। कक्ष में जल रहे सोने के दीयों (कांचना दीपाः) को मूक दर्शक बनाया गया है। 'अनिमिषा' (बिना पलक झपकाए) शब्द का प्रयोग देवताओं के लिए भी होता है, और यहाँ दीपकों के लिए हुआ है क्योंकि उनकी लौ स्थिर है। मानो वे दीपक भी उन स्त्रियों के रूप और रावण के वैभव को देखकर विस्मित हैं और अपनी दृष्टि हटा नहीं पा रहे हैं। यह रात्रि की निस्तब्धता और दृश्य की भव्यता को रेखांकित करता है।
