Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तयोर्भूतानि वित्रेसुर्युगपत् सम्प्रयुध्यतोः ।
रौद्रयोः सायकमुचोर्यमान्तकनिकाशयोः ॥६-१००-२७॥
tayorbhūtāni vitresuryugapat samprayudhyatoḥ |
raudrayoḥ sāyakamucoryamāntakanikāśayoḥ ॥6-100-27॥
Translation
All beings were terrified of those two fearful warriors fighting simultaneously, releasing arrows, and appearing like Yama and Antaka (Death).
हिंदी अनुवाद
एक साथ युद्ध करते हुए, भयानक बाण छोड़ते हुए और यमराज व काल (अंतक) के समान प्रतीत होने वाले उन दोनों (को देखकर) सभी प्राणी भयभीत हो गए।
English Commentary
The spectacle inspires terror in all onlookers ('bhūtāni vitresuḥ'). Comparing both Shri Rama and Ravana to Death entities ('Yama' and 'Antaka') implies that for the observer, both seem equally destructive and terrifying at this moment. The cosmos trembles at their collision.
हिंदी टीका
युद्ध इतना भयानक है कि देखने वाले 'भूत' (प्राणी) डर गए। दोनों योद्धा 'यम' और 'अंतक' (मृत्यु के देवता के दो रूप) जैसे लग रहे हैं। यह उपमा बताती है कि यह युद्ध जीवन और मृत्यु के बीच का नहीं, बल्कि साक्षात दो मृत्यु-शक्तियों के बीच का है।
