सारथेश्चापि बाणेन शिरो ज्वलितकुण्डलम् ।
जहार लक्ष्मणः श्रीमान् नैर्ऋतस्य महाबलः ॥६-१०१-१५॥
sāratheścāpi bāṇena śiro jvalitakuṇḍalam |
jahāra lakṣmaṇaḥ śrīmān nairṛtasya mahābalaḥ ॥6-101-15॥
Translation
The glorious and mighty Lakshmana severed the head of the Rakshasa's charioteer, which was adorned with shining earrings, with a single arrow.
हिंदी अनुवाद
श्रीमान और महाबली लक्ष्मण ने एक बाण से उस राक्षस (रावण) के सारथी का चमकते हुए कुण्डलों वाला सिर काट दिया।
English Commentary
Slaying the charioteer renders a chariot aimless. Shri Lakshmana demonstrated highly precise marksmanship. The severing of a head with 'shining earrings' shows that although the demons lived in great opulence, it could not save them from the strike of Truth. This was a significant tactical blow to Ravana's mobility.

सारथी का वध रथ को दिशाहीन बना देता है। श्री लक्ष्मण जी ने अत्यंत सूक्ष्म निशानेबाजी का परिचय दिया। 'ज्वलत-कुण्डलम्' सिर का कटना यह दर्शाता है कि राक्षस भी उच्च वैभव में रहते थे, किन्तु वह वैभव उन्हें सत्य के प्रहार से नहीं बचा सका। यह रावण की गतिशीलता पर एक बड़ा सामरिक प्रहार था।
